PORCELAIN VENEERS

Porcelain Veneers

What Are Porcelain Veneers?

A porcelain veneer is a thin porcelain shell that is custom fitted to the facing of your tooth. Most often, they are done as a set to improve the overall aesthetics and beauty of your front teeth. Porcelain veneers have a smooth translucent surface that optimizes the natural aesthetics of your underlying tooth structure. This porcelain surface is highly polished and resists staining. Because they are chemically bonded to your tooth, they possess strength and durability.

Veneers are a popular treatment option for varied reasons. Veneers generally are placed on upper and lower front teeth that are severely discolored, poorly shaped or slightly crooked. Many patients are discovering the benefits of porcelain veneers.

Improved Color-Youthful, Age-Less Appearance:

For discolored teeth, porcelain veneers can lighten teeth that are genetically dark yellow or grey and resistant to whitening procedures. In addition, they can cover teeth that possess genetic white or brown spots from hypo-calcification and fluorosis. One of the main benefits of lightening the shade of your teeth with veneers is a more youthful, ageless appearance.

Improved Shape-Natural Symmetry And Pleasing Proportions:

We've seen huge transformations take place with teeth that are poorly shaped whether too big or too small and chipped, worn teeth. Dr. Christine Grant works closely with her lab ceramist to re-shape and harmonize the shapes of your teeth. These teeth can be restored to improve their natural symmetry and pleasing proportions resulting in a completely new smile that radiates confidence and beauty.

Improved Tooth Position-Pleasing Composition of Your Smile:

Teeth that are slightly crowded or have uneven spaces are eligible for veneers. Patients that have a diastema or noticeable gap between their front teeth can enhance their overall appearance by closing this space with veneers. Porcelain veneers can be designed to improve the position of your teeth relative to your face, lips and gums to achieve a more pleasing composition of your smile.

Are You A Good Candidate For Veneers?

Dr. Christine Grant will evaluate whether or not you are a candidate for veneers. Some teeth are not good candidates for porcelain veneers and may require porcelain crowns. Porcelain veneers are contraindicated with severely fractured teeth or deep composite fillings. Teeth must be healthy and free of decay and active periodontal disease. Dr. Grant will examine your teeth and x-rays to determine if veneers are right for you. Patients who clench or grind their teeth are not good candidates for veneers because the thin porcelain veneers may chip or fracture over a period of time. Like any dental restoration, veneers are at risk for fracturing, breaking or becoming dislodged and may require replacement. Dr. Grant will discuss your expectations and treatment options to help you decide which option is best for you.
