Discoloration can occur for many different reasons. Some of these reasons are coffee, tea, soda, red wine, berries and smoking. Your teeth can also darken or stain due to the aging process or genetic disorders. Before determining if this process is right for you. Dr. Grant will complete a thorough dental exam to make sure your teeth and gums are healthy enough for the Zoom whitening.
At The Hyde Park Center for Aesthetic Dentistry, Dr. Grant recommends our patients use the Zoom in-office whitening treatment. There is a significant benefit of whitening your teeth under the supervision of a dentist. Over-the-counter whitening products are not customized to you. If you whiten at home, you risk over exposure to the whitening solution and sensitivity of the teeth and gums. Over the counter products such as whitening strips, trays and toothpaste only provide limited results. These products barely remove surface stains on your teeth. Dr. Grant’s Zoom whitening product goes beyond the surface of the tooth and penetrates the enamel. The active ingredient Hydrogen Peroxide is activated by an LED light and bleaches the deeper stains in the tooth. The process is safe and predictable and the end result is teeth that are up to eight shades lighter. Our patients leave the office with a smile that radiates confidence and beauty.
Relax, Whiten and Turn Up Your Smile
The complete procedure takes less than an hour, but a regular teeth cleaning is recommended prior to the actual Zoom whitening service. The procedure begins with a short preparation to cover the lips and gums, leaving the teeth exposed. Dr. Grant then applies the Zoom whitening gel, which works together with the Zoom light to penetrate the teeth and break up the stains and discoloration. The gel remains in place for 15 minutes while the light is activated. During this time, you can relax or listen to music. The gel is applied for three to four 15 minute sessions with light activation, for a total treatment time of 45 minutes to 1 hour. Immediately afterward, a desensitizing gel is applied to the teeth. Dr. Grant will give you a desensitizing gel that contains potassium nitrate to help minimize tooth sensitivity.

Whitening treatments
remove existing stains, but through consumption of coffee, tea, soda or natural aging, your teeth may eventually become discolored again. To ensure your smile stays bright and white between Zoom treatments, Dr. Grant offers her patients the Zoom whitening pen. This proprietary formula includes ACP (Amorphous Calcium Phosphate) which has been shown to reduce relapse discoloration. Regular use of the whitening pen helps maintain your bright, white smile.
